Admissions Process

Gipsy Hill

The Admissions Process for the Gipsy Hill Federation covers the following:

School Visits

We appreciate that choosing a school for your child is a very important decision and one that you want to feel comfortable about. Each school organises parent tours in the Autumn term to support parents who are thinking of applying for a place in one of our Reception classes. These tours give you an opportunity to see our schools at work and to ask any questions you may have. Our schools are very popular and many are heavily oversubscribed. For this reason we give priority for places on the tours to families who live locally and who have a child for whom they will be making an application for entry into Reception in the next school year.

If your child has a Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) of Special Educational Need (SEN), you have additional rights and responsibilities when it comes to choosing a school for your child. The SEN department at your local council will support you in making this decision, however it is important that you visit schools you may be considering for your child. Therefore if you have a child with an Educational Health Care Plan, and are considering one of our schools for example as a move from Nursery to Key Stage 1, please call the school and ask to speak to the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) who will be happy to arrange to meet with you.

If you are moving to this area or would like to change your child’s school, this is called an ‘In Year Admission’. You should contact your local council, who will advise you about this process.

For Lambeth Residents.

For Southwark Residents.

All of the Lambeth schools in our Federation are Community Schools, and as such the council maintain all waiting lists. For Southwark schools, waiting lists are held by the schools themselves. For all of our schools, you will be invited to visit the school if the council offer a place (Lambeth) or the school offers a place (Southwark) so that you can be sure that you are making the right choice for your child. We do not offer visits to the schools other than on this basis.

Nursery Admissions

If your child was born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015 you can apply to join one of our nursery classes for September 2018. Places can be applied for through the schools themselves.

Nursery Hours

All 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to have up to 15 hours per week of free early education childcare over 38 weeks of the year.  This is called Universal Entitlement.

The Government has added an additional 15 hours for parents to receive 30 hours of free childcare per week for parents that meet certain criteria.

The criteria for eligibility for the 30 hours free childcare include:

  • All parents (whether 2 parent or lone parent) are working and earning the equivalent of 16 hours per week at the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage
  • Neither parents’ income exceeds £100,000
  • One or both parents is temporarily away from the workplace on maternity, paternity or adoption leave
  • One parent is employed and the other parent is on specific disability benefits or has caring responsibilities and is in receipt of specific benefits

For a more detailed list of the criteria please visit,, where you will also be able to make an application for the 30 hours free childcare if you think you are eligible.  If you are eligible, you will receive a code on completing the application that you must bring to the school office for further verification by the school.

Please contact the relevant school office with regard to times to visit.  Applications will be taken between 30 October 2017 and 9 February 2018.  The school office will complete the application with you.  Successful nursery applicants will receive an offer letter in the week beginning 12 March 2018.

Reception Admissions

If your child was born between 1st September 2013 and 31st August 2014, you can apply to join one of our Reception classes to start in September 2018.

You must apply through the local authority in which you live. If you are not sure of your local authority, look on your council tax bill. So, if you live in Lambeth, please apply through Lambeth. If you live in Southwark, please apply through Southwark. It is where you live that is important and not the school borough.

The application has to be completed online through the e-admissions portal. If you want support in filling this in, please give us a call. Please ensure you have an email address you can use and your council tax bill.

Please be advised that Lambeth school admissions will be asking for evidence documentation to be scanned and emailed at the point of application. All information can be found on the Lambeth school admissions website where a Lambeth schools brochure is available.

Here are the links to the e-admission website for each borough.

When your child has been allocated a place, you will be contacted by the school directly with details of the enrolment process. We usually make appointments for parents to come in and fill in the following paperwork.

  • Details of any special dietary needs
  • Information about health and general development
  • Addresses and telephone numbers so you can be contacted in case of an emergency

If you cannot prove where you live then your child's place will be withdrawn.

Induction Days

Once you have enrolled you will be invited to one of our induction meetings where you will meet the Headteacher, the deputy and other key staff. Unfortunately, your child's class teacher will be teaching so will be unable to attend. Induction meetings happen at end of June onwards.

Secondary Transfer

The deadline for submitting applications to your home local authority is on Tuesday 31 October 2017.  Please check that you also submit any supplementary forms to the schools you are applying to, that may be required.
